This course is for people who have never played guitar, and for those above the age of 13 years old please. Cover the basic fundamentals of guitar playing: tuning, a few common chords and keeping a steady strum pattern. Please provide your own guitar and if possible, an electronic tuner. This is a course for ACOUSTIC guitar users only.

OUTLINE OF LESSONS

Lesson one
Preparation.

1. Strings of the guitar.
2. Tuning the guitar.
3. Fingers of the left hand.
4. Basic elements of music theory.

Lesson Two
Notation and diagrammatical chord accompaniment

1. Notes of the first string.
2. Finger board diagrams.
3. Exercise on first string.
4. Chord diagram.

Lesson Three

1. Practising chords.
2. Notes of second and third strings.
3. Song study.
4. Fourth string exercises.

Lesson Four

1. Notes of fifth string.
2. Scale study in C major.
3. Seven basic Chords.
4. Songs using basic Chords.

Lesson Five

1. Notes on sixth string.
2. Left hand exercises.
3. Song study.
4. Song study - choice of class.

Lesson Six

1. Taped music study.
2. Twelve bar blues.
3. Song study - choice of class.
4. Major Artist study eg. Beatles, Stones, Dylan etc.

NB - The structure and teaching of the lessons may change depending on the interests and aptitude of the students. The outline is flexible and adaptable to student needs.

Lessons seven and eight will be recap and practice extensions.
