Belly Dancing 1 (beginners)

with Michelle Grybaitis

“Each body moves differently, all bodies can dance. This class will provide a safe and supportive environment for women to increase their fitness, overcome inhibitions and explore their creativity. Belly dance is an accessible and beautiful dance form for all women, any age, shape or ability.

The ‘ basic’ moves of belly dance will be taught along with a dynamic sequence of moves each week. Your movement vocabulary will build steadily from the ground up, giving you the confidence to improvise anywhere, anytime! I place a great deal of emphasis on individual interpretation of moves, whilst still encouraging safe technique, thus drawing out a student’s natural grace and strengths.

This course is designed for beginners but open to all levels of ability. Please wear comfortable clothing and perhaps something that makes you feel a bit gorgeous.

Expect to leave class with more pride in your posture and a sassy sway in your hips!”

Belly dancing 1 (beginners)

This class is designed for the beginner, focusing on the basic elements of Middle Eastern Dance. The elegant and graceful movements celebrate the strength and beauty of the female form, regardless of age and body shape. Body awareness, posture and the anatomy of hip work, with an introduction to the rhythm structure of the music are taught in this class, as well as putting basic steps together to create a simple dance routine. Costuming will be discussed with ideas on how to put together an inexpensive costume. Individual attention will be given to students when needed. Students should wear clothing that allows the body to move without restriction.

An introduction to the beauty and fun of belly dance. Students will learn the basic movements of this dance form, including hip circles, 8's, undulations, percussive hips, shimmies and veil, and how to combine these movements to the music.
