Making your own Books
Wednesday: 6-8pm (8 weeks) Cost: $160- some materials includedA practical based course which introduces you to variety of book structures and construction methods. This course is designed for those with little or no experience in book making. This course will provide students with the knowledge and ability to successfully complete various book making projects within the home environment with minimal specialist equipment.
During this course you will gain the confidence and knowledge to construct a large variety of book structures, from a simple pamphlet stitch to a hard back sketch book. This course is designed to be a practical, hands-on course and you will walk away with a new handmade book almost every week.
During this course you will need to purchase some paper and box board to make your books, please do not buy this before the first week to avoid buying the wrong products.
Week
1:
- Introduction to book making and materials
- Examples of different type of book structures
Project one: pamphlet stitch, hard back pamphlet stitch, making book cloth samples and spines for stab bind book
Project two: Japanese stab binding, making book cloth spines for Coptic books
Making fancy paper for Coptic bound books.
Week
3:
Project three: Coptic bound book, with fancy paper covers
Making book cloth for sketch books
Project four: Hard back sketch book
Making book cloth for slip cases
Project five: Slip case for hard back sketch
Making book cloth for clam shell box
Week 6:
Project six Clam shell box
Making book cloth for A4 ledger note book
