Karate will teach children to develop the six perfections through Karate training - Discipline, Respect, Perseverance, Kindness, Generosity and Balance. The classes consists of fun games, Yoga stretching, Kinesiology, Karate and Meditation.
Kineisiology
At the beginning of each lesson children engage in a range of exercises known as kinesiology. Kinesiology was designed to bring about increased communication between the right and left hemispheres of the brain to improve balance, coordination and learning abilities.
Yoga
As part of the warm up, children also do a range of stretching to prepare the muscles for the training that is about to follow. This stretching also promotes Balance, Concentration and Strength. Children also learn about why it is important to stretch and how this helps their bodies.
Karate
The main aspect of the training is the karate. Children learn all aspects of karate training. This consists of kicking punching, blocking, grappling and throwing techniques, karate, katas [forms], sparring as well as the discipline and control that comes with it.
Meditation
At the end of the class children, sit quietly in mediation. Meditation trains the children to become aware of, 'the business of their minds'. This allows children the opportunity to control their mind and understand the nature of their thinking. Developing the ability to reflect on ones thoughts and actions is an important part of karate.
