9 Places Only
Monday - with Rachel Bowak
Course description: Need a new gate? Like the look of the metal furniture in those expensive catalogues? Always wanted to give it a go? Never had the tools?
This course is designed to instruct and guide you through the process of manufacturing articles made in metal. Students create all sorts of wonderful and creative objects with inspiration coming from magazines, books or needs around the home, farm or workshop.
Our workshop is well equipped with welders, lathes, milling machines, guillotines and a large variety of hand and power tools, to enable you to get the job done. Beginners as well as the more capable are catered for with instruction delivered at the level appropriate to you. So come with ideas of what to make or be open to suggestions from our collection of plans and catalogues and give it a go.
The welding component of this course offers instruction in basic welding skills using oxy-acetylene (gas welding) MIG and manual arc processes. The program is designed to cater for all learners regardless of previous knowledge and skill level.
Students are given the opportunity to develop their own metal project design and to source their own materials. However technical assistance will be available with individual designs and material lists. The college does hold an number of plans and prints of suitable metal projects that can be obtained by students on request.
Students will be taken through a step by step program of instruction and practice on welding, fabrication methods and finishing techniques and similarly with associated machines and tools.
As safety is of the utmost importance when operating arc, gas welders and associated equipment, initial lessons will be dedicated to OH&S issues.
