Digital Photography

Join us and explore the world of digital photography! This course is intended as an introduction for anyone interested in digital photography.

This course provides an introduction to the fascinating technology that is catapulting the photographic world into the 21st century. We'll discuss the basics of digital photography, equipment, software, the digital darkroom, printing, Internet and e-mail use, along with commercial and personal applications. You'll learn what you need, what you can do, and what you can expect to invest. Whether you're new to photography or a long-time professional looking for a complement to traditional photography, this class will provide an introduction to new opportunities for putting digital photography to use.

This course includes a knowledgeable and caring instructor in Mike Szabo who will guide you through your lessons, facilitate discussions, and answer your questions.

Beginners and existing silver film photographers will learn the technology behind the new medium, how to choose a digital camera and how to take great digital shots - or at least remove some of the more glaring errors with some image processing.

We will be experimenting with the various options and settings provided by digital cameras - from automatic exposure to image quality and resolution.

Both the possibilities and limitations of digital photography will be examined. Free open source image processing software will be provided. It is certainly highly advantageous to have your own digital camera.

Note* A basic understanding of computers is required.

Please bring a USB/memory stick with you to save any work.
