A practical based course which introduces you to the technical processes of
constructing your picture frame.
Entry requirements This course is for those
with little or no experience in the subject area.
This course is designed to
provide students with the knowledge and ability to successfully complete various
pictures framing projects within a home environment with minimal basic
equipment.
To achieve this aim 2 projects will be completed within the 8 week course.
Week 1.
• Introduction to framing concepts, materials
and equipment
• Practical demonstration and discussion on choice of student
projects
• Bring something simple that you would like to frame
Week 2 – 4/5
• Working on project 1.
Week 4/5 – 9
• Project 2. Now we try to be more
ambitious and creative! If you are interested in stretching needlework, etc, now
is your chance to learn.
Week 8
• Complete project 2
• Evaluation of course
and discussion
Topics covered in the course include
• Design concepts in picture framing
• Guildelines for selection of matt
boards
• Guildelines for selection of framing materials
• An overview of
picture framing tools
• Cutting matt boards
• Cutting mitres for framing
• Constructing the frame for hanging
• Advanced techniques in picture
framing
Students will need to supply their own materials to make their own picture frames. Locations for the purchase of materials at discounted rates are presented to the group. On the first night participants should bring with them a simple picture which they would like to frame. This will be used to stimulate discussion and provide a good starting point for the course.
